An Evening of Design, Craftsmanship, and Community

Last month, The Custom Space welcomed clients, collaborators, friends, and supporters to an evening that felt far bigger than a showcase. It was a chance to reflect on how far the business has come, the people who helped shape it, and the team behind every project completed along the way.

Held at The Boathouse, the room quickly filled with conversation, familiar faces, and new ones discovering The Custom Space for the first time. For the team, seeing so many people gathered together was something genuinely special.

Not long ago, the business was a much smaller operation. A handful of people, long days, big ideas, and a determination to create joinery that felt thoughtful, lasting, and personal to the homes it belonged in. Today, the company has grown into a full in house team of designers, joiners, spray painters, installers, detailers, and project specialists, all working together under one roof in Nelson.

With that growth has come bigger projects, refined processes, new technology, and the ability to deliver entire homes of custom joinery. Yet standing in the room that evening, surrounded by people who had supported the business from the beginning, it was clear the heart of the company has never changed.

The showcase featured completed projects, homes currently in progress, and a glimpse into the upcoming showroom now taking shape. Every board, render, and material selection reflected the level of detail, craftsmanship, and care behind the work.

Styled by Ana Galloway from Roam Events, the Boathouse was transformed through an autumnal palette, featuring drapery, lighting, and broken travertine as a key styling detail to reshape the space for the evening. The atmosphere reflected The Custom Space’s warm, grounded aesthetic, with florals by Foxglove and Find adding softness through rich seasonal tones.

More than anything, the evening became a celebration of the people behind the business. It was a reflection of years of hard work, relationships built over time, and a local company continuing to grow while staying true to the values it started with.

The Support, conversations, and messages have left our whole team feeling incredibly grateful. What started as a small idea has grown into something truly special, and nights like this remind us why we do what we do.

A special thanks to Impress Panels and Hafele for their generous contributions of materials for our display boards.
